Winter Skin: Your Complete Guide to Skin Care in Winter

Winter Skin: Your Complete Guide to Skin Care in Winter

If you’re not one of the lucky ones who has escaped winter with a European vaycay, then you’re probably like us and feeling the chill the cool winter air is bringing.  We all know what the cool winter air means; dehydrated, dry and dull looking skin. But there are a few things you can do to avoid looking as cracked and rugged as the Roman Colosseum.

Wear SPF

Yes, we know we say it all the time, but your future self will thank us! SPF is the best investment you can make for your skin, even in winter.

To minimise skincare steps before heading out for the day, choose a multi-action face moisturiser that not only doubles as a broad spectrum SPF, but also one that  contains skin-loving goodies. Look for hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba and Squalane to combat dehydration and dryness. For the ultimate skincare ‘cherry on top’, find a product that’s enriched with ingredients containing antioxidant properties (i.e. Tomato Extract and Carnosine).

Buyer beware, a lot of face moisturisers that are marketed as an SPF typically have a very low sun protection factor (i.e. SPF 10), so ensure you choose one with an SPF of 30 or higher, like our Good Morning Daily Face SPF 50

Now that you’ve got your face covered, don’t forget your body too, especially the areas most likely to be exposed in winter (think back of hands, back of neck, ears etc). Like we’ve said before, any time the UV is above 3, be sure to wear an SPF 30 or higher. Try our Kakadu Plum SPF 50+ for its added antioxidant properties. Have sensitive skin? Go for our fragrance free and dermatologically tested Sensitive SPF 50+

Don’t overheat

To keep warm in winter, we often turn up the heating, which can deplete the skin of moisture. We also tend to have longer and hotter showers, so it’s important to replenish the skin with moisture at the end of the day.

For the body, a rich and hydrating moisturiser that contains antioxidants, like our Kakadu Plum Body Milk, helps to replenish lost moisture and protect against free radical damage caused by the sun, pollution and environmental toxins.

For the face, opt for a night time moisturiser with multiple clinically proven, 'active' ingredients that will not only help to repair sun damaged skin, but will also provide a splash of hydration. Our Good Night Skin Restoring Cream is the perfect addition to your winter skincare routine. It is loaded with moisture boosting goodies like Vitamin E and Vitamin B5 to combat dryness. It’s packed with antioxidants thanks to added Kakadu Plum Extract and Carnosine, which help protect against free radical damage. Best of all, it contains 7% Niacinamide which can help to reduce inflammatory conditions like acne and rosacea, which become prevalent in cooler months thanks to the use of artificial heating.

A good skincare routine is an all year round commitment. Knowing your skin type and understanding how it changes with the weather is the first step to healthier looking skin.
